Activities

Canonteign Falls is a unique family attraction in the heart of the Devon and Dartmoor countryside.

Away from the crowds and set in over 90 acres of ancient woodland, lakes and wetlands, Canonteign Falls is the ideal place for outdoor adventure and the perfect tranquil family day out for the whole family. We welcome dogs on leads inside and out.

Canonteign Falls allows you to get back to nature amidst beautiful surroundings. With two dedicated children’s play areas, picnic spots, standing stones as well as paths, fairy trails and bridges across cascading streams there is so much to explore and entertain the family for the whole day!

We recommend you bring a baby carrier with you as the waterfall walk is not accessible by pushchair. Baby Carriers can be hired at admissions for £3. We have a baby changing facility in the disabled toilet.

Discover facts you never knew as you and the children follow our information boards around the Falls walk on our Children’s Nature Trail. Climb up through the Secret Garden and the 90 steps to the Victorian Fern Garden and on to the top of the waterfalls where you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Devon countryside.

Over the season we are running various fun activities for children, especially in the holidays. Children’s activity trails can be purchased all season which encourage exploration and adventure. See our events tab on the website for details of special events .

Zip Wire and Mini Assault Course

Our 30m zip wire is a firm favourite with our younger visitors. Zoom through the air on this flying fun adventure! Combine this with a timed race around our mini assault course where you can practise your climbing, swinging and balancing skills on the various obstacles on offer. Suitable for children from 5-12 years.

Children’s Play Areas

A huge wooden galleon, the ‘Indefatigable’ named after the estates original owner Admiral Pellew’s most famous ship is perfect for budding sailors amongst us, the ship is a great place to make believe and provides lots of fun with climbing walls, slide poles and rope ladders.

We also have two large trampolines, swings and a climbing frame with slide providing hours of fun allowing you to relax on a bench and enjoy the spectacular views across our Lily lakes and national parkland scenery.

Quentin Blake inspired Green Ship

Sailing on the banks of the Lily Lake is a wooden replica of Quentin Blake’s Green Ship. Below our bee garden and assault course, this ship is located within a short walk of our café and children are invited to climb and explore on it’s life-size deck. The vision for the ship is as a garden with planting plans including aromatic herbs and shrubs which, along with other greenery, will make a fabulous natural playground for children and adults to enjoy.

Labyrinth

Canonteign Falls is the site of world-renowned Maze artist Adrian Fisher’s latest Labyrinth.  Seven paved rings have been set into the grass overlooking the Devon countryside to mark the owners Chris and kate Baylis’s 60th birthdays.  In it’s centre is a polished stainless steel mirror disc Torus by the artist David Harber.  Children will love to explore its pathways and run around its rings to make it to the centre!
