At Canonteign Falls, we’ve always been passionate about celebrating the natural beauty of Devon. This year, estate owners Chris and Kate Baylis have taken that passion a step further by marrying our love for nature with a profound appreciation for the arts by welcoming a guest artist into the cafe. We believe art and nature go hand-in-hand, each enhancing the beauty and depth of the other.

Sarah Smith is not just an artist; she’s a storyteller, a nature enthusiast, and a proud female founder whose creations are deeply rooted in the Great British countryside. Sarah describes herself as “mostly made up of tea, big hair, and wellies,” and her works are a testament to her love for the simple joys of life.

Sarah’s art is a celebration of the ever-changing seasons and the treasures she finds in the hedgerows and on her walks through her homestead on Dartmoor. Each piece starts with a hand-drawn design, often inspired by the little items she forages—feathers, eggshells, dried blooms, stones—treasures that inspire her work (and sometimes challenge her washing machine!).
